Space Film & VFX releases sequel to viral film Slaughterbots

Slaughterbots - Space Time & VFX

Manchester-based film production and visual effects company Space Film & VFX has today released the sequel to its original viral film – Slaughterbots.

Titled ‘Slaughterbots 2.0 – if human: kill()’, the sequel follows on from the original Slaughterbots film released in 2017 which warned of the risks of autonomous weapons that use artificial intelligence (AI) without human intervention.

It was produced for US-based AI safety organisation The Future of Life Institute (FLI), which has Elon Musk on its advisory board. The sequel aims to encourage the United Nations to sign a legally binding treaty that bans the use of autonomous weapons that target people.

The original film gathered over 70 million views and was screened at the UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons.

Space Managing Director, Matthew Nelson said: “The decision to take a human life should never be made by a machine. When the opportunity to produce a follow-up to Slaughterbots presented itself, we jumped at the chance!

“Timings were tight, but we managed to develop the script, turn around shoots in Hungary, Dubai and the UK, plus post and VFX in just 7 weeks. I’m immensely proud of what the team have achieved – and sincerely hope our film goes some way to raising awareness on the very real issue humanity faces.”
